Coda – Chinese Finger Trap / On The Take – Natty Dub Recordings
July 30, 2019
The Natty Dub crew are reporting back to the Drum and Bass front lines once again. This time round is label stalwart Coda heading up Natty’s operations and providing the scene with some seriously heavyweight dance-floor firepower in the form of his blistering new double pack ‘Chinese Finger Trap’ and ‘On The Take’.
Coda‘s first Natty Dub bombs of 2019 are some of his most nostalgic yet devastating concoctions to date and most certainly not to be taken lightly.
‘Chinese Finger Trap’ begins our journey with lush piano chords skilfully punctuated with subtle brass stabs building up over crisp drum scores that slide majestically into a squelching vintage rolling bassline that will keep hips winding on any lucky dance-floor its unleashed on.
‘On The Take’ Kicks off with sumptuous hats and percussion that lead us into electric pacey jungle loops urgently dropping into a heavy distorted whomp bass that moves more air than a jet engine! Coda’s not done here though just wait for the switch up.
London-based Andi Mackay otherwise known as “Coda “is a DJ/Producer/Event Organiser & Record Label Owner originating from Leicester. A relatively new face to many, Coda’s history stretches back more than two decades with hard work and dedication for his love for Jungle/Drum & Bass music.
Starting out as a DJ in the mid-90’s Coda forged his craft as a DJ, playing at numerous prestigious events such as Urban Art Forms Festival, and Random Concept, and is a regular at UK’s longest running Drum & Bass event, Warning.
Coda started producing beats in the early 00’s, Coda’s style is described as ‘raw and rugged, retro future’. Coda has an eclectic range of output, from the vocal lead liquid hit ‘Don’t Let Me Fall…’ on Basswerk in 2003, to straight club rollers with ‘Tunnel Bass’ on Flip Audio in 2011, to the dancefloor destroyer ‘Shodan VIP’ in 2013 on Audio Danger and Drum & Bass Arena.
The one common denominator across these styles– they all work the dancefloor. Equally at home with solo projects, Coda likes to collaborate with other artists, and so far has worked with other accomplished producers– Serum,Zen, and Krooked over the years.
Coda has twice hit the #1 spot in the Juno DNB charts in 2015 with the techy- jump up, summer rave hit ‘Wagon Wheel’ featured on Natty Dub’s “The Rise Of The Soldiers” LP, and the devastating remix of Mampi Swift’s seminal track ‘Jaws’ alongside Serum.
Coda’s productions have gained support from some of the biggest names on the scene including Mampi Swift, DJ Hype, Grooverider, S.P.Y and Hazard to name a few.
