It just takes a glance down the list of Technique’s 2016 releases to see that this last year has been one of the most prolific and varied in the label’s history and it doesn’t stop there. The Annual 2016 is thirty-two cuts representing the full spectrum of this year’s output. We took a minute to catch up with Polaris, who had “Aquarius” a collaboration with Stranjah featured on the compilation and talk through the top Technique tracks of 2016.

1. Document One – Chasing Stars
This tune just sets off an incredible mood at any party I’ve played it at
2. Polaris feat. Schematic – Bring The Heat
This tune has come a very very long way since I first worked on it and I think I’m just very proud that it has made it on a great label like Technique. I didn’t see it coming that’s for sure. A lot of time was spent on making all of the elements of the track fit together nicely and also making sure that nothing was overwhelming. It was probably one of the most difficult tracks I’ve ever made.
3. Polaris & Stranjah – Aquarius
This song was an absolute joy to write with Alan… I think we finished it over the course of 2 days or so. We had laid every part of the tune down and it was just meshing so well but it was missing a little something… so we pulled up an Aaliyah sample, chopped it up, pitched it and that was the glue for the entire tune. The first thing everyone remembers about the name “Aquarius” are those vocals.
4. Spectrem – Shaolin
Spectrem has been putting out some really really good stuff. This one in particular I love because I’m obsessed with old movie samples implemented in music. There’s something about it that brings a certain nostalgic feeling to it all and this tune incorporates that for me very well.
5. Drumsound & Baseline Smith – The Truth
I’ve had nights where this tune completely changed the energy of an entire building. It’s heavy, hard hitting, not cluttered and every element fits perfectly like a game of tetris. I gotta hand it to Drumsound & Bassline Smith for this one because it’s an absolute monster of a tune.
